"A
Mission to the Haitian Border Touches
Hundreds"
BARAHONA, Dominican Republic
May 1, 2006
- On the border where Haiti meets the
Dominican Republic, lies a plantation that
harbors those who harvest and pick sugarcane
for a living. In a small and quaint town
called Barahona, three major non-profit
organizations stayed true to their mission
statements by giving back to the communities
in which they seek to make a difference.
Representatives from Eyes of Haiti,
the
Haitian Organization Program for Education
and Health (H.O.P.E.H.),
and Medical Wings International
distributed much needed essentials; things
that others might take for granted, such as
toothbrushes, toothpaste, clothes, shoes and
grooming provisions.
In a town where these supplies are sometimes
a luxury, these three organizations
addressed the problems of providing basic
essentials- to serve those who are
impoverished and seeking aid. Patrick Valme,
Co-Founder of Eyes of Haiti, said
“Missions like these make me feel that
together we can make a difference. Knowing
that we can unite for the same cause, makes
me realize that together we can make
positive changes. As a result of our
mission, I can feel a brighter future for
the children of Haiti is on the horizon.”
Recognizing the importance of the event,
Haiti Observateur and Radio Haiti
International,
observed and documented the events of April
27’
30, 2006. In addition many public figures
and local politicians including the Minister
of International Relations,
the Consul of Barahona and the Ambassador of
Haiti in the Dominican Republic, were on
hand to play an active part in the
missions a success.
Special Thanks to Emmanuel Brutus, Glenda
Johnson, and Marline Olivier, who are all
devoted to the grand scope of change
throughout their extraordinary efforts.
Eyes of Haiti
will continue its mission of educating Haiti’s
children in the hopes of Restoring faith,
love, dignity, respect and unity for these
future leaders. |
